Abstract: The severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-COV) are well known viruses from the family of Coronaviridae which in past caused outbreaks that led to various detrimental effect on world in many aspects. In the year 2019 when the new strain of coronavirus family (SARS-COV2) which is now known as COVID-19 (corona virus disease and 19 refer to the year it was first recognized) outbreak occurred in Wuhan affected the globe seriously. The health system got into a big challenge as this new strain of coronavirus spread much rapidly and caused much more mortality than the previous ones. The mortality was higher in those population which had comorbid conditions such as cardiovascular disease, lung disorders, chronic illnesses, diabetic patients and at the same time affected by COVID-19. Various regimes were selected but still proper and effective management is not available for such patients as these patients are already on multiple drugs. Among those chronic illnesses diabetic patients were found be highly susceptible to COVID-19. High disease mortality and worse outcomes in patients with diabetes urges that Diabetes appropriate management and better selection of drugs is crucial for the better outcomes in diabetic patients as most of the patients are treated for hypertension, hyperglycaemia and ongoing other chronic illnesses which could lead to worse case scenarios.

Abstract: Objective To search and evaluate the evidences of fall prevention measures in inpatients, and to summarize the evidences. Methods to retrieve database to September 2021 in the guide and the database (database construction measures of preventing falls in hospitalized patients the summary and system evaluation guidelines, relevant evidence), using something II Chinese version, "the 2016 edition of JBI authenticity of system evaluation paper assessment tool" and "2014 edition JBI evidence classification and grade system" to evaluate quality of literature and evidence grading. Results A total of 15 literatures were included, including 3 guidelines and 12 systematic reviews. Among the 15 pieces of evidence, 11 pieces are at the recommendation level of A and 4 pieces are at the recommendation level of B, The recommended levels are generally high. According to the evaluation and extraction results, the best evidence summary of prevention measures in 2 parts and 5 aspects, including 12 pieces, was finally formed. The five aspects of preventive measures are drug management, environmental modification, intervention for patients and caregivers, and intervention for health care personnel. Conclusion Medical staff should standardize and guide patients to master fall prevention measures according to the relevant level of evidence-based medical evidence, effectively ensure the safety of patients and reduce the loss caused by falls of patients.

Abstract: Background: Fluid and electrolyte balance are critical for the maintenance of life and homeostasis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate nurses’ knowledge and practice in maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance. Methods: Quasi-experimental design [pre, post, and follow-up tests] was utilized to fulfill the purpose of the study. Settings: This study was conducted at Pediatric Intensive Care Units, Menoufia Governorate, Egypt. Sample: A convenient sample of fifty nurses was represented in this study from January to August 2021. Two tools were used for collecting data. First tool: Fluid balance monitoring questionnaire consisted of two parts to assess nurses' knowledge regarding fluid and electrolyte balance and the second tool: Fluid balance monitoring audit to assess nurses’ practice of fluid balance monitoring. Results: The mean age and standard deviations of studied nurses were 28±6.9 and 34% of them were aged between 25 and 30 years old. Half of the study sample [50%] had a bachelor’s degree. On the pre-test, there were moderately adequate knowledge and incompetent practices of fluid balance monitoring. In conclusion: The study revealed that implementation of a health education program has a positive outcome on the advance of nurses’ knowledge and practices about fluid measurement and maintenance. Recommendation: Ongoing in-service education programs must be implemented at Intensive Care Units in order to boost nurses’ knowledge, practice, and outcome.

Abstract: Purpose: Patients in critical care units are considered high risk for pressure injury (PI) development with reported rates in the United States topping 40% in some cases. Multiple factors contribute to the risk of this population including a knowledge deficit among nurses which often leads to a lack of assessment and prevention measures needed to reduce pressure injuries. This project was launched after data collected by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (WOCN) team showed an increase in hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) in the intensive care unit (ICU) in the first quarter of 2016. The rate was 11.56 per 1000 patient days. This data was collected as part of our quarterly prevalence study reported to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Although this rate is lower than the national average, our patients deserve process improvement to achieve 0% incidence. Participants and Setting: The setting was a 16-bed ICU at a tertiary care hospital in the Southeastern United States. Monthly data was collected over the span of a year to evaluate incidence rates of hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) from Q1 2016 to Q 4 2017. Approach: The cornerstone of this project was to focus on nursing education surrounding pressure injury prevention (PIP) intervention selections. The overall goal was to heighten the quality of patient care by implementing an innovative PIP bundle that was supported by Certified Wound, Ostomy Nurse (CWON) education and knowledge sharing throughout the ICU. The Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) methodology was used to monitor interventions and outcomes. Outcomes: The measurable goal of this project was to decrease the quarterly rate of hospital acquired pressure injuries in the ICU by 50% by 4Q 2017, as compared to a rate of 11.54 per 1000 patient days 1Q 2016. Subsequent quarters demonstrated incremental decreased HAPI rates of 0.9, 1.8, 1.7, 5.2, 4.3, 0.9 and 0 by 4Q 2017. This was a total reduction rate greater than 50% which was our goal. The PIP bundle highlighted by WOC nurse education resulted in significant and clinically relevant reductions in incidence of HAPI in the ICU. Our future goal is to continue with an ongoing PIP bundle and WOC nurse rounding as part of our best practice within this hospital setting. In addition, we continue to share knowledge gained by this QI project with our extended WOCN team working at our surrounding facilities.

Abstract: (COVID-19) pandemic has rapidly spread across the globe causing massive disruptions to everyday life. This study aimed to assess the extent of adherence to the Precautionary measures among university students in Palestine during COVID-19 Pandemic. Research design: A cross-sectional sample survey consisted of 2094 male and female university students. Setting: the study was conducted at Modern University College, An-Najah National University, Palestine Polytechnic University, Al-Quds Open University, Ibn Sina College of Health Sciences and Arab American of University /West Bank / Palestine. The data collected was from the participant university students and started in first November 2020 to late November 2020 Subjects: A convenience sample consisted of 2094 female and male students with different Bachelor degree programs. Tools: A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection and included the following parts. Part 1: demographic particulars of the university students, Part II. Knowledge of university students about Coronavirus, knowledge among isolation for patient with COVID-19 at home, also their knowledge regarding following for Precautionary measures outside home, Part III: precaution practices were assessed for university students outside home Part IV: assessed University student attitude toward COVID-19. Results: the current study reveals that 80.2% of the studied sample of students had a satisfactory total knowledge regarding precaution measures outside home, 91% of them had a satisfactory total knowledge regarding precaution measures inside home among patient with COVID-19, and 95.5% of them had a satisfactory total knowledge regarding COVID-19 disease. There was a statistically highly significant relation between total knowledge and total practices outside home (p-value<0.001), and statistically significant relation between total knowledge and total attitudes (p-value 0.005). Conclusion: based on the current study, students were observed to have substantial knowledge, practices for precautionary measures, and a positive attitude toward COVID-19. Recommendation: continuing Government programs should aim to educate individuals from other sectors of the society to ensure the proper dissemination of knowledge on preventive safety measures, as this will help restrict and control the pandemic.
